Ok, I don't normally post recipes and cooking stuff but this is probably the simplest recipe in the whole world. It's a vegetarian tomato sauce for pasta! You could probably use the sauce for other things as well, but I eat a ridiculous amount of pasta so it seemed rather appropriate for this recipe. So this is what you do:
What you need
Tin Chopped tomatoes
Tbsp Tomato Puree
Pinch of Salt
Tsp Herbs
(Tsp Sugar optional)
One Onion (chopped)
Splash of Olive Oil
Salt (This is a herb salt - just being fancy, any kind of salt will do)
Herbs - Basil/Parsley/Rosemary or even black pepper - whatever you have available to you!
Tomato puree - ketchup will do if you don't have any.
A tin of chopped tomatoes!
Garlic or onion - whatever you have or what you prefer :)
Equipment
A pan
A spoon
Knife
Grater
Steps
1. Heat olive oil in pan and add chopped onion. Cook until soft, not burnt.
2. Add chopped tomatoes to pan.
2.5. This isn't necessarily a step, just a good tip. Fill about a quarter of the empty tomato tin with water, swoosh around and add to the tomato sauce. Cleans the tin and adds to the sauce!
2.5a. It doesn't matter if you add a bit too much water - it will evaporate away when you boil it.
3. Add tomato puree/tomato ketchup. About a tablespoonful depending on how much flavour you want to add.
4. Add cup of herbs to sauce.
5. Yum yum yumsies.
6. Add a pinch of salt to sauce.
7. Yum yum yumsies x2.
8. Stir and bring to the boil - once it is boiling, lower the heat and keep it simmering.
9. If you have an electric oven, turn it to about 2. Otherwise, just keep it on a low heat. :)
10. Stir again, and put lid on to make sure the sauce doesn't dry out.
11. Keep the sauce cooking for as long as you like, the longer you leave it the more the flavours will be brought out! I would suggest around 20 minutes if you want the taste but don't want to wait around for ages.
The thing that is great about this recipe is you don't have to worry about timings. Don't rush to put on the pasta or sort things out, just relaaaaaax for as long as you like! When you think the sauce is cooking nicely, cook the pasta and grate some cheese. Once the pasta is cooked, add the sauce and mix until it looks delicious. Sprinkle some cheese on top and BAM you have a simple but delicious meal ready! :)
I love this recipe so much because you barely need any culinary skills to do it ;) I would definitely recommend to anyone and everyone, unless you have a tomato allergy...if you do then please don't try this! Also, if you don't wanna hang around waiting for it to cook, this is the best part - you don't have to. Once all the ingredients are together, you can serve it straight away! The only reason you might want to leave it for longer is because some people like all the flavours blended together, but it doesn't really matter that much.
